Patrick Mahomes has a lot on his plate as he gets set to play in Super Bowl 59.
Ahead of the Super Bowl clash against the Eagles, Mahomes is getting all the support from his grandfather, Randy Martin.
As Patrick Mahomes prepares for his third consecutive Super Bowl, emotions are running high in his family.
Mahomes’ mother, Randi, shared a tragic update on her father’s health ahead of Super Bowl LIX, with the Kansas City Chiefs star’s grandfather ‘hanging on’ in hospice care.
Despite his declining health, Randy seems determined to hold on to see his grandchild possibly make history as the Chiefs head into Super Bowl LIX to face the Philadelphia Eagles.
Randi explained that while she doesn’t want to overwhelm Patrick, she does keep him informed with updates about his grandfather.
“I know that it has meant a lot to him,” Randi Mahomes said, per PEOPLE. “And I think he’s hanging on because he wants to see his grandson do an amazing thing or just let him play.
“I mean, he must be such a proud grandpa, so proud. And my mom was very proud, and his other grandparents [were too].”
Randi Mahomes further added that her dad might be struggling to live, but he remembers the date and time of Super Bowl 59, so he can watch his grandson play.
Patrick Mahomes Will Have The Difficult Task of Trying To Push His Grandfather Out of His Mind
As the Kansas City Chiefs pursue NFL history, one person figures to be on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ mind.
Mahomes’ grandfather was moved to a hospice only several days before the Kansas City Chiefs’ AFC Conference Championship game against the Buffalo Bills.
Mahomes has overcome serious challenges throughout his football career, but this might be the toughest yet.
He has to completely get his family member out of his head to focus on the task.
