Stephanie White Gives Exciting Update on Caitlin Clark’s Growth and Aliyah Boston’s Development Ahead of 2025 WNBA Season
April 17, 2025
The Indiana Fever are entering the 2025 WNBA season with not just high hopes, but a renewed identity — one that hinges on two of the most electrifying young stars in professional basketball: Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston. Under the guidance of head coach Stephanie White, both players are poised to take monumental steps forward in their development, and the team is shaping up to become a legitimate playoff threat.
White recently sat down with Sports Illustrated and SBNation to discuss the team’s evolving dynamic, her excitement about Clark’s second year in the league, and how Boston’s continued growth could make the Fever a formidable force in the Eastern Conference.
🌟 “This Duo Could Be One of the Greatest”: Stephanie White on Clark & Boston
Coach Stephanie White didn’t hold back when speaking about her two franchise cornerstones. She described the on-court chemistry between Caitlin Clark, the 2024 No. 1 overall pick and reigning Rookie of the Year, and Aliyah Boston, the 2023 top pick and All-Star center, as “potentially historic.”
“When you think about the great point guard-post player duos like John Stockton and Karl Malone, I genuinely believe Caitlin and Aliyah have that kind of ceiling,” White told Sports Illustrated. “They’re smart, unselfish, and competitive — all the things you want in your core.”
Clark’s first season with the Fever was nothing short of record-breaking. She led all rookies in points and assists per game, broke the single-season rookie assist record, and even drew comparisons to legendary playmakers like Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi. But White believes Clark’s best is yet to come.
“We’ve only scratched the surface of what Caitlin can do in this league,” White said. “She’s learning how to manage pace, how to read defenses at a WNBA level. Her vision and range are elite — we just need to keep building the system around her.”
🏀 Aliyah Boston: The Anchor of the Paint
While Clark makes headlines for her deep threes and flashy passes, Aliyah Boston remains the steady backbone of the team. A defensive powerhouse and double-double machine, Boston is expected to thrive even more in her third season, especially now that Clark’s presence gives her more room to operate in the paint.
“Aliyah is the kind of player who makes everyone around her better,” White said. “She sets hard screens, protects the rim, and can finish through contact. But now, with Caitlin drawing more defensive attention, we’re seeing Aliyah get cleaner looks.”
White noted that the Fever’s offseason was strategically built around enhancing this inside-out dynamic. The team brought in veterans like DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard to add experience and toughness, giving the young stars the freedom to focus on growth and chemistry.
🔍 Clark’s Sophomore Season: What’s New?
Despite her remarkable rookie campaign, Clark has focused her offseason on areas that critics flagged as weaknesses: shot selection, turnovers, and off-ball defense.
“She’s a film junkie,” White said. “She’s been working on refining her decision-making in the pick-and-roll and learning how to move without the ball to avoid traps. Her work ethic is already separating her.”
Off the court, Clark’s brand has exploded. From signature shoes to endorsement deals, she’s become one of the most marketable athletes in women’s sports. But White insists that Clark remains grounded.
“She shows up to practice like she’s fighting for a roster spot. That’s the part that impresses me most,” said White. “The spotlight hasn’t changed her focus.”
🧠 Basketball IQ + Leadership
A major focus for White and the coaching staff this year has been building leadership among the young core. Clark and Boston are now expected to take on more vocal roles.
“They’re both leaders in different ways,” White explained. “Caitlin leads by example and intensity. Aliyah leads by her presence and calmness. Our locker room follows them.”
White also pointed to the strong bond forming between the two stars. Off the court, they’ve become close friends — something the coach believes is key to their on-court success.
“They respect each other deeply. They push each other. And they genuinely like playing together. That’s something you can’t manufacture.”
📅 Big Games to Watch in 2025
With the league’s eyes on Indiana this season, here are a few marquee matchups fans should mark on their calendars:
May 3: vs. Washington Mystics — Season opener and Caitlin Clark’s sophomore debut
May 17: vs. Chicago Sky — First face-off against fellow 2024 draftee Angel Reese
June 15: @ New York Liberty — Key test against WNBA title favorites
July 27: vs. Las Vegas Aces — Matchup against the defending champions
The Fever are expected to be nationally televised more than any previous season in franchise history, a testament to the star power Clark and Boston bring to the court.
🏆 Playoff Aspirations and Beyond
After years of rebuilding, the Fever finally seem ready to contend. With a strong young core, veteran additions, and one of the most innovative coaching staffs in the league, Indiana is no longer a team to overlook.
“Our goal isn’t just the playoffs,” White concluded. “It’s to build a championship culture that lasts. And with Caitlin and Aliyah leading the way, we believe the future starts now.”
