In a bold move that’s making headlines, Midler expressed her joy after selling her Tesla. “What a joyful day!” she proclaimed in a post on Instagram and Bluesky. Despite her long-standing commitment to environmental advocacy, the legendary performer revealed her reasons for selling the electric vehicle, branding Tesla as “a symbol of racism, greed, and ignorance” due to its ties with CEO Elon Musk.

Her comments come amid growing scrutiny of Musk’s significant political contributions and his controversial far-right rhetoric. Since January 20, Tesla has become a focal point for protests, fueled by Musk’s nearly $3 billion investment in supporting President Trump and his allies as they strive for power, as well as his efforts to diminish federal programs and cut government jobs.

At 79, Midler has been a steadfast voice in liberal politics, often voicing her criticisms of both Trump and Musk on social media. Following Trump’s reelection victory in November, she ceased her activity on X, the platform owned by Musk.

“Life is so much better!!!” she joyfully expressed while announcing her decision to part ways with Tesla on her remaining social media channels.

Midler is not standing alone; she’s joined by other artists who have distanced themselves from Musk’s automotive brand. In February, Grammy-winning singer Sheryl Crow shared footage of her own Tesla being towed away, declaring that the sale proceeds would be donated to NPR. “There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with,” Crow posted on Instagram, bidding farewell to Tesla.

Some Tesla owners who have chosen to keep their vehicles have taken to modifying them to obscure the make and model, fearing vandalism or negative associations with Musk. The brand has witnessed acts of defacement worldwide, including graffiti and arson, executed by individuals who oppose Musk’s controversial views.

Additionally, Tesla’s stock has taken a hit as Musk immersed himself in political engagements.

Conversely, Trump has leveraged his position to promote Tesla purchases, warning that anyone who damages these vehicles will face serious consequences.

In a landscape where political affiliations and consumer choices increasingly collide, Midler’s departure from Tesla encapsulates a broader dialogue about identity, values, and the implications of corporate leadership.
